How to motivate yourself

02/14/2022

Have you ever been head over heels in love with someone? What did you do? You did everything in your power (skipping studies, work, responsibilities, meetings, deadlines, Netflix everything) to be with him or her, right?

This is an example of intrinsic motivation. It comes from deep inside within your heart and soul, and drives you as if you were a self-driving, self fuelled car that never runs out of gas.

Now imagine your boss tells you to work harder, meet deadlines, hit targets and offers incentives to burn you brighter. And it does but for a short time and you go back to burning on and out. The more he tells you to work harder, the less you want to work hard. Incentives, perks, raises can't keep you running forever. It's like you are a car with a leaky tank. You keep filling in, it keeps draining out. This is an example of extrinsic motivation.

For many of us, salary-raise, award, monetary benefit, grade, status-rise, etc are a great motivation but after having achieved them (or even before) we discover how empty and worthless they are and feel deflated.

Love, passion, earnest motive, sincere goal, and burning desires are the best, the strongest and life long motivators.

One only needs to love something in order to give himself the wings to fly.''

A mother's love for her child, drives her to undergo unbearable amount of stress and difficulties to protect her child. This is true for mothers in every living species on earth.

A person's love for his spouse/ family will make him do anything to provide for/ protect him or her.

People's motivation for money leads them to do anything in the world.

World's top entrepreneurs whether Jobs, Branson, Gates, Bezos or Zuckerberg, they all did what they loved to reach the pinnacle we all know.

Moral of the story: Do things you love. You will never run out of your gas.

Do what you love and like a self-driving car with eternal gas, you will start taking off and the rest will fall in place by itself.''
